The Heritage Range

Shetland Lace Knitting is a craft with a long heritage. It has a wide range of traditional stitch patterns which can be combined to create stunning pieces of knitwear.

Shetland shawls knitted by highly skilled craftspeople are heirloom items. Using delicate single ply, they create shawls for weddings, Christenings or for a special gift which are handed down through generations. The famous Unst wedding shawls are so light and fine that they can be threaded through a wedding ring.

If you would like to learn more of the history of this endangered craft, do look it up online and in libraries. There's so much to learn about it. If you enjoy knitting, then why not have a go yourself?

Shetland Lace from Proggy and Tweed

In this Heritage Range, you can find traditional Shetland Lace stitch patterns used to create a range of shawls, scarves and other accessories to suit modern tastes. I use soft merino or Falklandwool in laceweight or, for mittens and scarves, 4 ply yarn, usually sourced from small independent dyers or British producers.

My shawls and scarves are lightweight, soft and all handknitted by me. They can be worn in a variety of ways and will last a long time.

You can commission a shawl from me in your choice of colour. Do please contact me if you would like more information or watch out on social media for updates. Price List

The Crescent looks very elegant. It's light and soft and beautiful for weddings. It can be made in white or a colour to complement bridesmaids' dresses.

Whatever the occasion or however you choose to wear them, these shawls will always be just right.

The Wee One

A mini version of the Crescent shawl, this is a really useful accessory. It's a pretty and cosy addition to your wardrobe, soft and light. Wear it tied as shown or tie it at the back and wear it like a bandana to show off the pattern.
